Research Question
How can we improve Environmental Impact Assessments to keep up with the ongoing "Blue Acceleration" and the cumulative effects caused by these new maritime industries?

Investigation of activity-induced pressures on soft sediment endobenthos created by two novel marine industries: offshore wind energy (Belgian Part of the North Sea) and deep-sea mining (Clarion Clipperton zone, Pacific Ocean). Insights gained from the ecological scope (impact scales, benthic responses, threshold values, ecosystem functioning) will be used to work towards a holistic impact assessment framework bridging the gap between science, industry and governance.
