Research Question
How can benthic fauna cope with microplastic pollution in the marine ecosystem in the tropical area?

My PhD project is investigating the microplastic pollution in Vietnamese beaches and the role of benthos which is divided into two tasks. Task 1: We first will do a field study to investigate the microplastic concentrations in the sediment and in benthos on Vietnamese beaches in natural conditions. Task 2: We will then study the role of benthos as a vector for microplastic by means of experiments to identify their potential functions of (micro)plastic accumulation and removal and burial rate in the sediments.
