Our research group is interested in studying the impacts of anthropogenic pollutants on benthic ecology. These studies investigate relevant topics such as microplastics distribution and effects on benthic organisms, and the role of heavy metals in benthic physiology and metabolism. Through our studies, we delve into the interactions between microplastic particles and benthic organisms, carefully examining their ingestion, bioaccumulation, burrowing activities and the potential ecological consequences that arise.
